Are you looking for an Inmate, Detainee or someone who is currently incarcerated in a Locate An Inmate in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Immigration Detention Center? There are several different places that someone who has been arrested and is currently in custody in a Locate An Inmate in ICE Immigration Detention Center could be.
The U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agency houses many Inmates that are in Federal Custody and/or have Immigration Proceedings Pending. An inmate in a U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement Facility/Jail is called a Detainee. According to the Ice Website, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the second largest investigative agency in the federal government. Created in 2003 through a merger of the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service, ICE now has more than 20,000 employees in offices in all 50 states and 47 foreign countries.
Reasons to use the ICE Detainee Locator:
- Locate a Detainee being held by ICE. You can also use the ICE Detention Center facility search below to get more information about particular facilities a Detainee might be held in.
- Locate a person arrested by ICE. The Ice Detainee Locator is a good site to use to search for someone who is being held or has been arrested by ICE.
- To search for information about an Adult Detainee being held by ICE. Information about Child Detainees held by ICE is not available on the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. The locator only contains information about Detainees over the age of eighteen years of age (18 years old).

Ice has a method of finding inmates using the Inmate’s unique “A-Number” which is a unique nine digit number given to each inmate in Ice custody. If the A-number you have is less than nine digits long, add zeros in the beginning of the number ( for example: 001234567 or 012345678). You must also know the Detainee’s country of birth. Please Note: Juveniles and persons released over sixty (60) days ago will most likely not be found in the system.
If you can not find an detainee & he or she has an attorney, often the attorney/lawyer is a great resource for locating a detainee.

If you are looking for a person/detainee taken by ICE and you are having no luck, you may wish to contact a local community based organization that deals with immigration for assistance. There are also ICE offices, including the ERO Community Outreach ICE Community and Detainee Helpline. The helpline is for community stakeholders. What is a community stakeholder? A stakeholder is an individual in ICE custody, members of the general public, organizations, attorneys and advocacy groups.
The Community and Detainee helpline can be contacted at 888-351-4024 and is available during certain hours. The hours of the detainee helpline are Monday through Friday from 8am to 8pm.
